I have a confession to make. I really don’t like chocolate AT ALL.
Like I eat it maybe 3 times a year, MAX. It is the 107th reason why I am a total weirdo.
But Nutella?! Man oh man, I love me some Nutella. Hazelnut, chocolate creaminess that tastes great on everything you put it on. No wonder the Europeans laugh at us when we use peanut butter. Chris once spent 30 minutes trying to explain a peanut butter and jelly sandwich to one of our Italian friends. Frederico thought we were crazy for ever wanting to eat such a silly sandwich, especially at 1am (which is usually when I can find Chris snacking on one). I mean who would ever downgrade to peanut butter after a life filled with Nutella? Damn, the French bested us on food once again.
When in Paris, we would stumble out of the bar at 2am and head straight to the crêpe stand. Obviously we were ready for some breakfast. My favorite crêpe always had Nutella, Strawberries and Bananas. When I wanted to come up with some dessert sandwiches for our hike over the weekend, this combo was the first thing that popped into to my head. Not only were they super easy to make (which is a real plus at 5am) they were delicious!
I used my Fresh Baked Bread and I spread a sugar butter on both slices. It gave the toasty bread another delicious layer of sweetness. To make the sugar butter, I just added a teaspoon of sugar to 2 tablespoons of softened butter. I toasted it in a sauté pan because my bread slices wouldn’t fit in my toaster.
I couldn’t have asked for a better treat after a really long hike. These sandwiches were crunchy, sweet and oozing with creamy hazelnut Nutella. It also gave us the perfect boost of energy for the hike home.
Nutella, Strawberry and Banana Sandwich
Serving Size: 1 Sandwich
1-2 tablespoons of sugar butter
2 slices of bread
1 banana
4 strawberries
2 tablespoons of Nutella
Spread the sugar butter on one side of slice of bread. Toast, butter side down, in a sauté pan to get a sweet and buttery toast on the bread. On the non-buttered side of each slice, add 1 tablespoon of Nutella. On one slice add strawberries and on the other add bananas. Put the fruit covered slices together and that’s it! You have a perfect Nutella, Strawberry and Banana Sandwich.
I am drooling right now! This sandwich looks almost (but not quite) TOO decadent!
